With the “fine print’ out of the way, We want you to be happy with your purchase, and will work with you or your installer to provide the best possible installation of your purchase. It is important to determine the cause of the original damage and correct it, or the same failure will soon occur. We have seen most failures, and have come up with some standard procedures that will alleviate most of the common causes of failure. Short cutting these important steps, will only put your product at risk, and cost you more in the long run. We will not be responsible for failures caused by you or your installer cutting corners. We are happy to help in any way to make a long lasting repair. See below for instalation tips, and ask when you make your purchase.

Lower units

Drain and refill unit, most are shipped dry.  Replace the water pump impeller on Used units. Check the shift rod adjustment where applicable. Insure that shaft splines and their mates are clean and free of burrs, grease them lightly. After first tank of fuel run through, drain and refill oil on rebuilt units to remove any grit that may accumulate from the break-in of new parts.

Power heads

The number one failure of 2 stroke powerheads is piston damage from detonation.  The causes of this are numerous, but it is most often  attributed to a lean fuel mixture at high power levels. This causes combustion temperature and pressures to skyrocket, causing broken rings, and molten pistons. The entire fuel system should be checked from the anti-siphon valve, and vent in the fuel tank to the jets in the carburators. It is recommended that the main jets size in the carbs be increased by 2 sizes, and the full timing advance reduced by 2 degrees to help reduce the effects of oxygenate in todays gasoline. Certain oil injection systems seem to be responsible for engine failures. Without entering this controversy, it should be said that the most reliable oiling system is oil mixed with the fuel by you the owner.

All powerheads will come with break-in instructions, and these should be followed to the letter to insure a long lasting repair. The following items should be considered mandatory in a powerhead replacement: Clean and rebuild carbs, Rejet according to latest service bulletin, or recommendations above, Replace; thermostat(s), and water pump impeller, and replace all fuel filters, and rebuild or replace the fuel pump(s). This will add 100-400 to the price of the job, but this is a small price when compared to doing the whole job over.

Inboard engines: Refer to the warranty package attached to your engine.
